Matt formula with a contrast effect

Thanks to its strong capillary flow, the paint runs into the recesses of the miniature, giving deep shadows and bringing out the detail on its own. Ideal for fantasy figures and wargames armies with minimal effort.

Shade and highlight in one coat

No need for multiple layers: with Xpress Color you get saturated colour in the recesses and lighter tones on the raised areas. That makes it ideal for gamers who want quick, effective results.

Made for armies and squads

Whether it's a horde of orcs, a regiment of soldiers or a full army for the tabletop, Xpress Color speeds things up and keeps the colours consistent across every miniature.

Brush it straight on

Apply it straight over a white or grey primer. If you want more control, thin it with Xpress Medium to work transitions and subtler tones.

Good results at any level

Whether you're a beginner or an experienced painter, this range delivers. Newer painters get an easy, striking result; experienced painters use it as a quick base and then add detail with other Vallejo ranges.

Recycled bottles

Xpress Color bottles are made of recycled and recyclable r-PET plastic, transparent so you see the real colour, with a tamper-evident cap.

Vallejo Xpress Color FAQ

Do I need to prime before using Xpress Color?

Yes, a white or grey primer is recommended so the colours flow better and the contrast is stronger. You can also use the slapchop technique: prime in a dark colour (grey or black), then drybrush white before painting. It brings out the detail even more and boosts the shading effect of Xpress Color.

Does Xpress Color replace normal paints?

No. Xpress Color is for speeding up basecoating and shading on miniatures, but you can combine it with other ranges such as Game Color for detail and more advanced effects.

Can you airbrush Xpress Color?

It's designed for the brush, but yes, you can airbrush it thinned with Xpress Medium or Airbrush Thinner. That gives you more control on bigger projects.

What finish does Xpress Color give?

A matt, high-contrast finish, with shadows and highlights picked out in one step, which is why it works so well on wargames miniatures.

Is Xpress Color only for beginners?

No. Plenty of experienced painters use it to get large armies painted faster without the miniatures looking any worse for it.
