Brush care and durability

A good brush, looked after properly, can last for years. FAQ: brushes for miniatures, scale models and 3D prints

Natural hair (such as Kolinsky sable) holds a very sharp point and carries more paint, which makes it great for detail and blending. Synthetics stand up better to wear, are easier to clean and are usually cheaper.

Ideally a fine brush for detail, a medium one for base coats and a large flat or round brush for brush-on primer or general effects. Those three cover most basic techniques.

It depends on how much you use them and how you look after them. Cleaned properly and stored dry, a good brush can last years without losing its point. Premium brushes such as Artis Opus tend to last longer.

Not necessarily. Sets are handy for getting a balanced range of sizes, but if you already have some experience you can buy single brushes for the techniques you use most.
