3DXTech ThermaX PEEK Filament: Industrial-Grade Ultra-Polymer (500g, 1.75mm)

ThermaX PEEK is the material you reach for when part failure simply isn't an option: aggressive chemicals, sustained high heat, and hydrolysis resistance above 250°C. This is a natural, 500g spool in 1.75mm diameter. Fair warning upfront: PEEK is not a filament to experiment with on a desktop printer. 3DXTech themselves state that most standard printers cannot maintain the conditions this material requires.

Key Specs

  • Tg of 143°C, continuous use temperature of 240–260°C, and Tm of 343°C (per 3DXTech).
  • Tensile strength of 100 MPa with 28% elongation at break (TDS).
  • Base resin rated UL94 V-0 at 1.5mm — self-extinguishing with low smoke emissions.
  • Long-term hydrolytic stability even above 250°C.
  • Nozzle: 400–480°C | Bed: 140–180°C | Heated enclosure: 70–140°C.
  • Dry at 120°C for 4 hours before printing.

Can My Printer Handle PEEK?

Most likely not, unless you're running a dedicated high-temperature machine. 3DXTech's product data sheet specifies a nozzle temperature of 400–480°C, bed temperature of 140–180°C, and an actively heated enclosure at 70–140°C. Their product description also references a slightly lower hotend range of 360–450°C, along with the requirement for a fully enclosed, actively heated chamber. Either way, a standard desktop hotend with PTFE components or a basic thermistor won't cut it. If your printer doesn't meet these specs, this filament isn't for you.

What Should I Use Instead?

3DXTech themselves suggest several alternatives: PEKK, which offers PAEK-family performance with a more forgiving print window; PEI (ULTEM), which prints more predictably; or PPS if chemical resistance is your primary concern. You'll find all of these in our technical filaments collection.

What Parts Is PEEK Actually Right For?

Parts in direct contact with automotive fluids, halogenated hydrocarbons, alcohols, and aqueous solutions — the full chemical resistance profile listed by 3DXTech. It's also the right call wherever dimensional repeatability matters, thanks to its low, uniform thermal expansion and excellent creep resistance at elevated temperatures.

Printing Tips

  • Purge the nozzle when you finish printing. 3DXTech warns that if PEEK cools inside the hotend, black specks and extremely difficult clogs can develop.
  • Use a slow print speed and reduce or turn off the part cooling fan, as recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Dry thoroughly: 120 °C for 4 hours. You'll need a dryer capable of reaching that temperature — check out our filament dryers and verify the maximum temperature for each model.
  • The TDS test specimens were printed at 380–400 °C with a bed temperature of 130–140 °C, 0.25 mm layer height, and 100% infill.
  • Let the enclosure reach and stabilize at temperature well before you start printing to ensure consistent conditions throughout the build volume.

Frequently Asked Questions

What diameter and weight is this filament?
1.75 mm and 500 g, natural color. SKU PK001UN200500NAT0, verified on 3dxtech.com.

Can I print this on a Bambu Lab or Prusa printer?
No. 3DXTech states that most standard desktop printers cannot reliably maintain the conditions PEEK requires.

What nozzle temperature should I use?
The product datasheet lists 400–480 °C, while the product description states 360–450 °C. The TDS test specimens were printed at 380–400 °C.

Does it need a heated enclosure?
Yes. 3DXTech recommends an enclosure temperature of 70–140 °C, and the product description emphasizes that it must be an active, fully enclosed chamber.

Is it flame retardant?
The base resin is rated UL94 V-0 at 1.5 mm per the TDS. The manufacturer describes it as self-extinguishing with low smoke and toxic gas emissions.

What is the HDT?
140 °C at 0.45 MPa per the TDS. 3DXTech lists a continuous use temperature of 240–260 °C.

Do I need a hardened nozzle?
Not for this unfilled PEEK, according to 3DXTech. The critical factor is hotend temperature capability, not nozzle hardness.

Does it have medical or aerospace certification?
3DXTech does not list any such certifications on this filament's product page, so we don't claim any either.
