3DXTech ThermaX PEI 1010: Highest-Temperature PEI Filament Made with ULTEM 1010 Resin (500g, 1.75mm)
ThermaX PEI 1010 is 3DXTech's PEI filament formulated with ULTEM 1010 resin. Compared to the 9085 grade, it raises the Tg to 217 °C and HDT to 208 °C — making it the go-to choice when parts truly need to perform under sustained heat. Available in black and natural, 500g at 1.75mm. The trade-off is demanding hardware requirements: nozzle temps of 370–390 °C, bed temps of 120–160 °C, and a heated enclosure.
Key Specs
- Formulated with ULTEM 1010 resin, per 3DXTech.
- Tg of 217 °C and HDT of 208 °C at 0.45 MPa (per TDS).
- Base resin rated UL94 V-0 at 1.5 mm.
- Stable dielectric constant and dissipation factor across a wide range of temperatures and frequencies.
- Nozzle: 370–390 °C | Bed: 120–160 °C | Heated enclosure recommended.
- Demanding drying requirements: 150 °C for 4 hours.
Can My Printer Handle It?
You'll need a genuine high-temperature 3D printer. 3DXTech requires 370–390 °C at the nozzle, 120–160 °C at the bed, and recommends a heated enclosure. An all-metal desktop hotend rated to 300 °C won't cut it. If your printer can't reach those temps, this isn't the filament for you. Also check your filament dryer: the 150 °C drying requirement is beyond the reach of most consumer-grade dryers.
Black or Natural?
3DXTech publishes a single datasheet for PEI 1010 without separating by color, so both variants are the same material on paper. Choose based on aesthetics or to make parts easier to identify in your workshop.
What Is PEI 1010 Used For?
3DXTech highlights high strength and stiffness retention at elevated temperatures, dimensional stability, good chemical resistance, and stable dielectric properties. That makes it well suited for tooling that goes through ovens, parts near motors, and electrical insulation components. Printing Tips
- Dry at 150 °C for 4 hours. Check the maximum temperature rating before purchasing one of our filament dryers — you'll need one that actually reaches that temp.
- 3DXTech's test specimens were printed at 380–400 °C with a 130–140 °C bed, 0.25 mm layer height, and 100% infill.
- Turn the part cooling fan off or as close to off as possible.
- Pre-heat the enclosure and let parts cool inside with the door closed.
- PEI bonds aggressively to certain surfaces — use a release layer if your build plate is PEI.
Frequently Asked Questions
What formats are available?
1.75 mm, 500g, in black (PEI02UN200500BK01) and natural (PEI02UN200500NAT0). Verified on 3dxtech.com.
What nozzle temperature does it require?
370–390 °C according to 3DXTech.
Can I print it without an enclosure?
3DXTech recommends one. Without it, you'll only be able to print very small parts and risk delamination.
What temperature can the printed part withstand?
HDT of 208 °C at 0.45 MPa and a Tg of 217 °C per the TDS.
Is it flame retardant?
The base resin is rated UL94 V-0 at 1.5 mm per the TDS. This does not certify your printed part.
Do I need a hardened nozzle?
No — it contains no fibers. 3DXTech lists no nozzle requirements for this filament.
Why does it need to be dried at 150 °C?
That's what 3DXTech specifies for this grade. Moisture causes PEI to bubble and lose mechanical strength.
Is this an ESD-safe material?
No. This is an unfilled PEI with no conductive additives — 3DXTech offers a separate ESD-PEI 1010 grade for that.
