Tip: PETG tends to stick to nozzles and print surfaces more strongly than PLA. A small increase in the Z-offset (0.02–0.05 mm higher than usual) goes a long way toward preventing the first layer from sticking too firmly to the bed.

🚀 Tips for Printing with PETG Pro

🌡️ Extruder between 220–250 °C — Start at 230 °C and adjust based on the finish you're looking for. If you see stringing, drop 5 °C

🛏️ Bed at 70–80 °C — Textured PEI works great with PETG. Avoid smooth PEI without a release agent as it can stick too strongly

💨 Fan at low to medium — PETG needs some cooling but not as much as PLA. 20–50% is a good range

📏 First layer slightly higher — Raise the Z-offset slightly compared to PLA to prevent the part from welding to the bed

🔄 Well-tuned retraction — PETG tends to string. Adjust retraction (typically 4–6 mm for Bowden, 1–2 mm for direct drive) and retraction speed to minimize it

How does PETG differ from PLA?

In return, it requires slightly higher printing temperatures and can produce more stringing if retraction isn't dialed in properly. It's the natural next step when you need functional parts that PLA can't handle. 💪

How does it compare to ABS?

PETG Pro offers mechanical strength similar to ABS, but with two key advantages: it doesn't require an enclosure to print well and produces virtually no warping. Is it good for outdoor parts?

How do I avoid stringing?

Stringing (thin threads between parts) is PETG's Achilles' heel. To minimize it: adjust retraction (try 4–6 mm for Bowden, 1–2 mm for direct drive), lower the temperature a few degrees if it's excessive, and enable the "wipe" option in your slicer if it has one. Drying the filament before use also helps, as moisture increases stringing. 🧵

Do I need a special bed surface?

Textured PEI is the best option for PETG — it adheres well during printing and releases easily once cooled. Be careful with smooth PEI: PETG can stick too strongly and damage the surface. If you use smooth PEI, apply a thin layer of glue stick as a release agent. Glass with hairspray also works well. 🔧

Can PETG be painted?

Yes, although PETG is less porous than PLA, which means paint doesn't adhere as well directly. A light primer coat before painting solves the problem completely. It can also be sanded without any issues. 🎨
