Elegoo PETG Pro Filament for Demanding Prints ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ

If you want a filament that prints almost as easily as PLA but holds up like ABS, Elegoo's PETG Pro is the perfect middle ground. The best of both worlds, without the drawbacks of either. ๐ŸŽฏ

PETG (Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol) is one of the most versatile materials in 3D printing, and Elegoo's Pro version takes it one step further: greater toughness, excellent impact resistance, superior dimensional stability, and chemical resistance that make it ideal for both functional parts and projects that will live in demanding conditions. It's also resistant to water, oils, and weathering, so you can use it without any issues in outdoor applications. โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ’ง

And a cool detail: Elegoo's PETG Pro has translucent properties that give your parts a very attractive semi-transparent effect, especially in lighter colors. Available in a wide range of colors so you can choose the one that best fits your project. ๐ŸŽจ

โœ… What makes Elegoo PETG Pro special

๐Ÿ–จ๏ธ As easy to print as PLA โ€” Forget the drama of ABS. PETG Pro prints on open 3D printers with no significant warping issues and no need for an enclosure. Compatible with direct drive and Bowden extruders.

๐Ÿ’ช ABS-level mechanical resistance โ€” Toughness, impact resistance, and flexibility far superior to PLA. Your functional parts will withstand knocks and stress without breaking.

๐Ÿ“ Excellent dimensional stability โ€” Less warping and less shrinkage than ABS. Parts maintain their shape and dimensions exactly as they should.

๐Ÿงช Chemical and weather resistance โ€” Withstands water, oils, household chemicals, and UV rays. Ideal for parts that will be outdoors or in contact with liquids.

โœจ Semi-transparent effect โ€” PETG's translucent properties give parts a very attractive visual finish, especially in lighter colors. Perfect for LED housings or decorative parts.

๐Ÿ“ Dimensional accuracy ยฑ0.02 mm โ€” Manufactured to strict tolerances for precise fits and consistent results print after print.

Recommended drying 60 ยฐC for 8 hours before use
Printer type FDM / FFF (direct drive and Bowden)

๐Ÿ–จ๏ธ Which 3D printers is it compatible with?

With the vast majority of FDM 3D printers on the market. The entire Elegoo Neptune and Centauri range, Bambu Lab, Creality, Prusa, Anycubic, and similar brands. It works with both direct drive extruders and Bowden systems, so compatibility is very broad. โœ…

Tip: PETG tends to stick to nozzles and print surfaces more strongly than PLA. A small increase in the Z-offset (0.02โ€“0.05 mm higher than usual) goes a long way toward preventing the first layer from sticking too firmly to the bed.

๐Ÿš€ Tips for Printing with PETG Pro

๐ŸŒก๏ธ Extruder between 220โ€“250 ยฐC โ€” Start at 230 ยฐC and adjust based on the finish you're looking for. If you see stringing, drop 5 ยฐC

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Bed at 70โ€“80 ยฐC โ€” Textured PEI works great with PETG. Avoid smooth PEI without a release agent as it can stick too strongly

๐Ÿ’จ Fan at low to medium โ€” PETG needs some cooling but not as much as PLA. 20โ€“50% is a good range

๐Ÿ“ First layer slightly higher โ€” Raise the Z-offset slightly compared to PLA to prevent the part from welding to the bed

๐Ÿ”„ Well-tuned retraction โ€” PETG tends to string. Adjust retraction (typically 4โ€“6 mm for Bowden, 1โ€“2 mm for direct drive) and retraction speed to minimize it

๐Ÿ“ฆ Dry before use โ€” PETG absorbs moisture. Elegoo recommends drying it at 60 ยฐC for 8 hours for optimal results

โ“ Frequently Asked Questions

How does PETG differ from PLA?

PETG is significantly stronger, more flexible, and more durable than PLA. It handles impacts, heat (higher deformation temperature), water, and chemicals much better. In return, it requires slightly higher printing temperatures and can produce more stringing if retraction isn't dialed in properly. It's the natural next step when you need functional parts that PLA can't handle. ๐Ÿ’ช

How does it compare to ABS?

PETG Pro offers mechanical strength similar to ABS, but with two key advantages: it doesn't require an enclosure to print well and produces virtually no warping. It also emits far fewer fumes than ABS, making it safer to print at home. If you were considering ABS but were put off by the fumes and warping, PETG Pro is your alternative. ๐Ÿ

Is it good for outdoor parts?

Yes, absolutely. PETG Pro resists water, oils, household chemicals, and UV rays. It's one of the best filaments for applications that will be exposed to the elements or in contact with liquids. Garden brackets, sensor enclosures, boat parts, pool accessories... all of that is PETG territory. โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒง๏ธ

How do I avoid stringing?

Stringing (thin threads between parts) is PETG's Achilles' heel. To minimize it: adjust retraction (try 4โ€“6 mm for Bowden, 1โ€“2 mm for direct drive), lower the temperature a few degrees if it's excessive, and enable the "wipe" option in your slicer if it has one. Drying the filament before use also helps, as moisture increases stringing. ๐Ÿงต

Do I need a special bed surface?

Textured PEI is the best option for PETG โ€” it adheres well during printing and releases easily once cooled. Be careful with smooth PEI: PETG can stick too strongly and damage the surface. If you use smooth PEI, apply a thin layer of glue stick as a release agent. Glass with hairspray also works well. ๐Ÿ”ง

Can PETG be painted?

Yes, although PETG is less porous than PLA, which means paint doesn't adhere as well directly. A light primer coat before painting solves the problem completely. It can also be sanded without any issues. ๐ŸŽจ
