3DXTech Firewire FR-ABS: Flame Retardant ABS Filament with UL94 V-0 Base Resin (750 g, 1.75 mm)

Firewire FR-ABS is 3DXTech's flame retardant ABS filament. It's built on a UL94 V-0 rated base resin and produces self-extinguishing parts designed for electrical enclosures, panels, and equipment where fire is a real hazard. It prints like standard ABS: nozzle at 220–240 °C, bed at 100–110 °C, and best results in an enclosed printer. Available in black, 750 g spool, 1.75 mm diameter. Note: the V-0 rating applies to the base resin, not your finished printed part.

Key Specs

  • Flame retardant and self-extinguishing ABS.
  • Base resin rated UL94 V-0 at 1.5 mm (per TDS).
  • Easier to print than most industrial-grade materials, according to 3DXTech.
  • Tensile strength of 45 MPa and HDT of 95 °C at 0.45 MPa (per TDS).
  • Nozzle 220–240 °C, bed 100–110 °C, enclosed chamber recommended.
  • No special nozzle required. Dry at 80 °C for 4 hours.

Will My Printer Handle It?

If you can print ABS, you can print this. You need a bed temperature of 100–110 °C and a nozzle temperature of 220–240 °C, and 3DXTech recommends a heated enclosure. A closed printer — even without active chamber heating — is usually enough for mid-sized parts. On an open-frame printer, larger prints are likely to warp and delaminate.

What Does UL94 V-0 Actually Mean Here?

UL94 V-0 is a vertical burn classification: the flame self-extinguishes quickly with no flaming drips. In 3DXTech's TDS, this rating is marked with an asterisk as a base resin property, tested at 1.5 mm thickness. Your printed part does not automatically inherit that certification — if you need to meet a specific standard, the finished part must be tested independently. Printing Tips

  • TDS test specimens were printed at 235 °C, bed at 110 °C, 0.25 mm layer height, and 100% infill.
  • Print in an enclosed printer with the part cooling fan set low.
  • The base resin rating was established at 1.5 mm wall thickness. Avoid designing walls thinner than that on fire-critical parts.
  • Dry at 80 °C for 4 hours if the spool has been open for a while. Check our filament dryers — several reach that temperature.
  • Print in a ventilated area, as you would with any ABS.

FAQ

What format does it come in?
1.75 mm diameter, 750 g spool, black. SKU ABS07FR200750BK00, verified on 3dxtech.com.

Is it fireproof?
It's flame retardant and self-extinguishing. The base resin is rated UL94 V-0 at 1.5 mm thickness.

Are my printed parts V-0 rated?
Not automatically. The TDS rating applies to the base resin; the finished part would need to be tested separately.

Do I need a heated enclosure?
3DXTech recommends one. A enclosed printer makes a significant difference.

Do I need a hardened steel nozzle?
No, 3DXTech doesn't specify any special nozzle requirements for this filament.

What's the heat resistance of printed parts?
HDT of 95 °C at 0.45 MPa and a Tg of 105 °C, according to the TDS.

What is it used for?
3DXTech targets this filament at automotive, aerospace, consumer electronics, and industrial equipment applications where flame spread risk needs to be minimized.

Can it be smoothed with acetone?
3DXTech doesn't mention acetone smoothing for this material, so we can't confirm whether it works.
