Raise3D Rigid 3K: High-Strength, Heat-Resistant Engineering Resin for the DF2 (1 kg)

Rigid 3K is what you load into the DF2 when your part simply cannot flex. Raise3D rates it at 3,263 MPa Young's modulus, 78 MPa tensile strength, and 97 °C HDT at 0.45 MPa — comparing its stiffness to glass-fiber-reinforced thermoplastics. It's well-suited for thin walls, connectors, brackets, tooling, and functional prototypes that need to hold up under real working conditions.

Key Specs

  • Young's modulus of 3,263 MPa (post-cured).
  • 78 MPa tensile strength and 139 MPa flexural strength.
  • HDT of 97 °C at 0.45 MPa and 64 °C at 1.82 MPa.
  • Stiffness comparable to glass-fiber-reinforced thermoplastics, per Raise3D.
  • Gray color (PMS 6218 C / RAL 7001).
  • Applications: robust prototypes, thin walls, connectors, brackets, and tooling.
  • 1 kg cartridge for the DF2 and DF2+.

Rigid 3K or Tough 2K?

It comes down to how your part fails. If the issue is deflection or heat deformation, go with Rigid 3K — it has a higher modulus (3,263 vs. 2,158 MPa) and nearly 30 °C more HDT. If your part breaks from impact or needs to flex during assembly, Tough 2K is the better choice, with 35% elongation at break versus 14% for Rigid 3K.

Why Does Post-Curing Take So Long?

Because the datasheet values require a full post-cure. Raise3D cured test specimens for 30 minutes per side in the DF Cure. In the green state, the resin sits at 1,766 MPa modulus and 38 MPa tensile strength — post-curing nearly doubles both figures. Don't skip this step.

Does It Work with Printers Other Than the DF2?

Raise3D only offers this resin for their DLP ecosystem — the DF2 and the DF2+. It comes in the 1 kg cartridge designed for these machines' automatic resin feeding system, and the DF2 verifies the resin type to apply the correct print, wash, and cure profiles via ideaMaker and the platform's RFID. All datasheet testing was carried out on a DF2. Raise3D does not publish compatibility with other 405 nm printers, so we're not going to sell it to you for that purpose. If you need a rigid resin for a different printer, take a look at our tough and rigid resins.

Workflow

  • Before printing: Raise3D recommends shaking and stirring the cartridge thoroughly, storing it away from UV light, ensuring sufficient resin level, and filtering out any cured particles during use.
  • Printing: Compatible with the DF2 and DF2+ using the Raise3D print profile. Test specimens for the datasheet were printed at 100 µm layer height with 5.5 s exposure per layer.
  • Washing: Use the DF Wash station with either IPA or TPM — the two compatible solvents. The DF Wash features dual-turbine agitation, two drying fans, and automatic draining. The resin profile loads automatically via RFID or can be entered manually.
  • Curing: Use the DF Cure station, which combines 365, 385, and 405 nm LEDs with heated air up to 120 °C. As a reference, Raise3D cured test specimens for 30 minutes per side at room temperature.
  • Safety: Always wear gloves and avoid all skin contact while the resin is in liquid form.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the heat resistance?
Raise3D lists an HDT of 97 °C at 0.45 MPa and 64 °C at 1.82 MPa, on fully post-cured parts.

Is it suitable for production tooling?
Yes — jigs, fixtures, brackets, and connectors are among the applications Raise3D recommends this resin for.

Is it impact resistant?
Impact resistance is not its strength. Notched Izod is 30 J/m; for impact-heavy applications, Tough 2K is a better choice.

Can it handle thin walls?
Yes — Raise3D specifically recommends this resin for thin-wall parts thanks to its high rigidity.

Are the datasheet values from Raise3D?
Yes. All values come from Raise3D's official Technical Data Sheet (TDS), based on specimens printed on a DF2 and post-cured in a DF Cure station. Raise3D notes these are typical reference values — actual results will vary depending on part geometry, print orientation, and process parameters.

What solvent should I use for washing?
IPA or TPM — the two solvents Raise3D lists as compatible with the DF Wash. Manual washing with IPA also works, but you won't get the automatic profile loading.

What size does it come in?
1 kg cartridge, the same format used by the DF2's automatic resin feeding system.

How should I store it?
Keep it away from UV light, tightly sealed, and shake well before each use — as specified by Raise3D on the product page.
