HeyGears Resin 3D Printers

HeyGears resin 3D printers are the UltraCraft Reflex series: LCD printers that level themselves, top up resin on their own and run locked profiles for each UltraPrint resin. We sell three: the Reflex RS Turbo, the Reflex Turbo and the Reflex 2 Pro.

They are not three sizes of the same machine. The RS Turbo works at 405 nm and is built for detail. The other two work at 385 nm and open the door to technical resins. Below you will find the comparison and which one to choose for what you print.

Three printers, two wavelengths

The biggest difference between the Reflex printers isn't size, it's the light. The RS Turbo is 405 nm, while the Reflex Turbo and Reflex 2 Pro are 385 nm. HeyGears says resin cures 1.5 times more at 385 nm than at 405 nm, which is why the brand's engineering resins only run on the 385 nm machines.

In practice: on the RS Turbo you can use the Modeling and Production resins, such as PAS10, PAP10, PAF10, PAWR10 or PAU11. You can't use PAT10 clear, PAC10 castable, PAU20, PAH270, PAE10 or PAM10. The full table is in HeyGears resins.

Reflex RS Turbo: miniatures, figures and fine detail

The RS Turbo has a 10.3" 8K Amber Screen with 566:1 contrast and a 29.7 μm pixel, the finest in the range. It prints 30 to 100 μm layers in a 222 × 122 × 228 mm build volume, and Blueprint comes with a 30 μm profile already tuned for miniatures.

It's the lightest of the three (20 kg) and the one HeyGears recommends for people stepping up from an entry-level printer: it levels itself, tops up resin and detects debris. It supports Open Material mode for 405 nm resins from other brands.

Resin heating is optional: you need the heated tank, which comes in the Pulsing Release Module kit for RS or as a standalone tank.

Reflex Turbo: technical resins in a desktop format

The Reflex Turbo works at 385 nm with a 9.25" Amber screen, a 33 μm pixel, 25 to 150 μm layers and a 192 × 121 × 220 mm build volume. It comes with a heated tray as standard, which takes the resin from 10 to 22 °C in 20 minutes and keeps it there.

Its territory is parts that actually get used: functional prototypes, tooling, seals and elastic parts, clear parts and casting patterns. It handles the whole UltraPrint range for the Reflex series. For PAC10, PAE10, PAU20 and PAH270 you need the Pulsing Release Module kit for Reflex.

It has USB, Wi-Fi and LAN, supports Open Material and HeyGears says you can learn to use it in under an hour.

Reflex 2 Pro: height and batch production

The Reflex 2 Pro is the big one: 230 × 144 × 350 mm, 2.3 times the volume of the original Reflex according to HeyGears. With 35 cm of height it fits parts you'd have to split on another printer, such as templates, orthoses, shoe lasts or housings.

It uses a 1,032-zone OptiZone light source that only lights up where there's a part, a 10.7" Amber Screen Pro rated for over 6,000 hours, a 40 μm pixel and 20 to 250 μm layers. The standard heated scraper brings the resin from 10 to 22 °C in 6 minutes and holds it within ±1 °C.

For engineering resins it needs the Pulsing Release Module 2 kit. It weighs 29.7 kg and it isn't a beginner's machine.

What they have in common

All three level themselves: the floating screen or build plate absorbs height differences of up to 240 μm. All three top up resin while printing and have sensors that detect debris in the tank and stop before the film gets damaged. And all three have a C5-grade Z axis, with a positioning error of 2 μm at most.

They all run on Blueprint Studio (Windows and macOS): automatic supports, mesh repair and one profile per resin. To complete the workflow, HeyGears makes the UltraCraft Wash for washing, the UltraCraft Cure for curing and the GreenPrint purifier for the air in the room.

When it's time to replace a screen, tank or build plate, each printer has its own in HeyGears spare parts.

Which one to choose for what you print

If you mostly print miniatures, figures and busts, go for the RS Turbo. It has higher resolution, weighs less and is the easiest step up if you're coming from an Elegoo or an Anycubic.

If you need technical resins, such as clear, castable for jewellery, polycarbonate-like, elastic or high-temperature, the Reflex Turbo. If you also need height, solid parts or a build plate full of identical parts every day, the Reflex 2 Pro.

HeyGears printers: frequently asked questions

Which HeyGears printer is best for miniatures?

The Reflex RS Turbo. It has the finest pixel in the range, 29.7 μm, a 566:1 contrast screen and a 30 μm profile already tuned in Blueprint for HeyGears resins.

What's the difference between 385 nm and 405 nm on HeyGears printers?

The Reflex Turbo and Reflex 2 Pro work at 385 nm and, according to HeyGears, cure 1.5 times more than at 405 nm. That's what lets them use the engineering resins. The RS Turbo is 405 nm and can't run PAT10, PAC10, PAU20, PAH270, PAE10 or PAM10.

Do HeyGears printers come with the Pulsing Release Module?

No, none of them include it as standard. It's optional with most resins and required for PAC10, PAE10, PAU20 and PAH270 on the Reflex Turbo and Reflex 2 Pro. There's a kit for each family.

Can I use resins from other brands?

On the RS Turbo and Reflex Turbo, yes, with Blueprint's Open Material mode, setting the exposure yourself. HeyGears doesn't list that mode for the Reflex 2 Pro: ask us first if you need it.

Do HeyGears printers heat the resin?

The Reflex Turbo has a heated tray and the Reflex 2 Pro a heated scraper, both as standard. The RS Turbo can only heat resin with the heated Pulsing Release tank, which is sold separately.

Which one has the largest build volume?

The Reflex 2 Pro: 230 × 144 × 350 mm, with 35 cm of height. The RS Turbo has 222 × 122 × 228 mm and the Reflex Turbo 192 × 121 × 220 mm.

Is it hard to move from an Elegoo or Anycubic to a HeyGears?

No. The Reflex printers level themselves, top up resin on their own and Blueprint generates the supports. HeyGears actually recommends the RS Turbo for people stepping up from an entry-level printer.

What software do I need?

HeyGears Blueprint Studio, for Windows and macOS. With the Reflex 2 Pro you can also use the Blueprint Go app to follow your prints from your phone.

Can they connect via Ethernet cable?

The Reflex Turbo and Reflex 2 Pro have USB, Wi-Fi and LAN. The RS Turbo connects via USB and Wi-Fi.

What else do I need besides the printer?

Compatible resin, alcohol or ethanol for washing, and a curing station. HeyGears makes the UltraCraft Wash and UltraCraft Cure, and if you're going to use engineering resins, you'll need the Pulsing Release Module for your model.
