HeyGears UltraPrint PAP10: high-detail resin for miniatures and fine parts

PAP10 is HeyGears' resin for when detail comes first: miniatures, small-scale replicas and parts with very fine structures. It comes in a 1 kg bottle and in two colours, ash grey and black. It's part of the UltraPrint range, designed for HeyGears Reflex printers: the Reflex, Reflex Turbo, Reflex 2 and Reflex 2 Pro work with 385 nm light, and the Reflex RS and RS Turbo with 405 nm. HeyGears validates it on all of them with its own profiles.

First, the important part: this is not a resin for generic 405 nm LCD printers (Elegoo, Anycubic, Phrozen and similar). HeyGears formulates and validates it for its Reflex platform, with locked parameters in its software. If you don't own a Reflex, this resin isn't for you.

Key points

  • Wavelength: 385 nm on Reflex, Reflex Turbo, Reflex 2 and Reflex 2 Pro; 405 nm on Reflex RS and RS Turbo. Only validated on HeyGears printers, not on 405 nm LCD printers from other brands.
  • Fine detail: minimum pillar of 0.1 mm in black and 0.15 mm in ash grey; minimum embossed detail of 0.06 mm (black figure).
  • Stability: dimensional deviation within ±0.05 mm according to HeyGears.
  • Ageing: 600 h of UV ageing (ASTM G154), which HeyGears equates to about 8 years of indoor use, with less than 30 % loss of properties and no noticeable colour change.
  • Hardness: 83 Shore D (ash grey) and 78 Shore D (black).
  • Flexural strength: 93-94 MPa.
  • Does not require the Pulsing Release Module.
  • Format: 1,000 g bottle.

What it's for and who it's for

HeyGears presents it as a high-precision application resin: end-use miniatures, small replicas and intricate parts. It's the one to put in the machine for wargaming and RPG figures, busts, small dioramas and any part with sharp edges, fine textures or thin elements such as spears, ropes or filigree.

The two colours have different uses:

  • Ash grey: the go-to colour for painting. Detail is easy to see and primer adheres well to a neutral tone. It's the one HeyGears recommends for painting and finishing.
  • Black: edges and textures stand out more to the naked eye, and it reaches the finest pillar (0.1 mm). Useful for parts that will stay unpainted or for presenting prototypes in black.

Beyond miniatures, its dimensional stability and ageing resistance make it suitable for short runs of small parts that need to come out identical: HeyGears talks about small-batch production with consistent results.

Compatibility: HeyGears printers and Pulsing Release Module

PAP10 works on HeyGears Reflex series printers, with the HeyGears Blueprint process packages. It does not require the Pulsing Release Module (PRM).

  • Ash grey: Reflex, Reflex Turbo, Reflex RS, Reflex RS Turbo, Reflex 2 and Reflex 2 Pro.
  • Black: the official HeyGears store lists it for Reflex, Reflex Turbo, Reflex RS and Reflex RS Turbo. HeyGears' materials website also includes it for the Reflex 2 and 2 Pro, but warns that compatibility is being updated. If you have a Reflex 2, check that the black process package appears in Blueprint before ordering.

About wavelength: the Reflex, Reflex Turbo, Reflex 2 and Reflex 2 Pro work at 385 nm; the Reflex RS and RS Turbo at 405 nm. HeyGears validates PAP10 on both families, always with its own profiles. That doesn't make it a resin for any 405 nm printer: outside the Reflex series there is no official profile and no guaranteed result.

If you use the Pulsing Release Module on a Reflex RS or RS Turbo, PAP10 is on the list of resins compatible with the RS PRM kit. Printers: Reflex 2 Pro, Reflex Turbo and Reflex RS Turbo. All other resin printers are in resin 3D printers.

Use and post-processing

HeyGears doesn't publish exposure or post-curing times in the technical data sheet: the parameters are in the HeyGears Blueprint process packages, which you select when preparing the job. That's how the whole UltraPrint range works: you don't have to calibrate the resin yourself.

  • Before printing: shake the bottle well. The resin performs better when warm; HeyGears actually uses PAP10 to benchmark the heated scraper on the Reflex 2, which brings it from 10 to 22 °C in 6 minutes.
  • Washing: remove uncured resin with the solvent specified in the process package. With the Reflex range, the most convenient option is the UltraCraft Wash; if you wash by hand, you'll find alcohol and accessories in alcohol and post-processing.
  • Post-curing: HeyGears offers its UltraCraft Cure, with dual-wavelength curing and heat, designed for the Reflex platform. Other stations are in wash and cure machines.
  • Painting: with ash grey, prime directly after curing and give the support marks a light sanding.

Safety and handling

The HeyGears safety data sheet (SDS) classifies PAP10 with the signal word "Warning" and the following hazard statements:

  • H302: harmful if swallowed.
  • H315: causes skin irritation.
  • H317: may cause an allergic skin reaction.
  • H319: causes serious eye irritation.
  • H335: may cause respiratory irritation.
  • H373: may cause damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure.

Work with nitrile gloves, safety glasses and good ventilation. If resin gets on your skin, wash with soap and water. Keep the bottle closed in a cool, dry, ventilated place, away from heat and out of reach of children. Don't pour liquid resin down the drain: cure it in sunlight or with UV and dispose of it as solid waste in accordance with local regulations.

Which one should you choose?

  • PAP10: maximum detail and stability for miniatures and small parts.
  • PAS10: standard modelling resin, for everyday printing and prototypes that don't demand as much detail.
  • PAWR10: if the part will be handled a lot (board games, articulated figures, gears), thanks to its 2H surface hardness and higher impact strength (64 J/m).
  • PAF10: PVC-like miniatures that need to survive drops and bending.
  • PAU11: if you're after ABS-like behaviour for functional parts.

You'll find all our resins in 3D printer resins.

Who it's not for

  • Anyone with a 405 nm LCD printer from another brand. There's no official profile and we don't recommend it.
  • Parts that need to bend or snap-fit: with 12 % elongation, it's a rigid resin.
  • Parts exposed to heat: its heat deflection temperature is 58 °C.
  • Large, solid parts where detail doesn't matter: there are cheaper resins for that.

Frequently asked questions

Does PAP10 work on my Elegoo, Anycubic or Phrozen printer?

We don't sell it for that. PAP10 is formulated for HeyGears Reflex printers (385 nm, and 405 nm on the RS and RS Turbo) and is printed with the HeyGears Blueprint process packages. There are no official parameters for generic 405 nm LCD printers.

Is it a 385 nm or a 405 nm resin?

Both, but only within the HeyGears range. The Reflex, Reflex Turbo, Reflex 2 and Reflex 2 Pro cure it at 385 nm; the Reflex RS and RS Turbo at 405 nm. In both cases with HeyGears Blueprint profiles. The fact that it works on an RS at 405 nm doesn't mean it works on any 405 nm printer.

Does it need the Pulsing Release Module?

No. It prints with the standard vat. If you already have the PRM on a Reflex RS or RS Turbo, PAP10 is among the resins compatible with that kit.

What's the difference between ash grey and black?

Ash grey is easier to paint, slightly harder (83 vs 78 Shore D) and tougher on impact. Black defines edges more sharply and reaches 0.1 mm pillars, versus 0.15 mm for grey.

Does the black work on the Reflex 2?

HeyGears' materials website lists it as compatible, but the official store only lists it for Reflex, Reflex Turbo, RS and RS Turbo, and HeyGears warns that it's updating compatibility. Check in Blueprint whether you have the black process package before ordering. Ash grey is listed as compatible with the Reflex 2 in every source.

How long does a part printed in PAP10 last?

HeyGears has subjected it to 600 h of UV ageing, which it equates to about 8 years indoors or 1 year outdoors, with less than 30 % loss of properties, no noticeable colour change and a dimensional deviation of ±0.1 mm.

Where are the exposure and curing times?

In the HeyGears Blueprint process packages. HeyGears doesn't publish them in the technical data sheet because the printer and software apply them directly.

Is it suitable for functional parts?

For small, rigid parts, yes: 54-55 MPa tensile and 93-94 MPa flexural strength. For parts that will take knocks or friction, PAWR10 is a better choice.
