HeyGears UltraPrint PAS10: standard modelling resin for Reflex printers

PAS10 is the entry-level resin in HeyGears' UltraPrint range: its own technical data sheet presents it as the most affordable option in the family. It has medium viscosity, moderate strength and toughness, and a matte finish where layers aren't visible to the naked eye. It's designed for figures, miniatures and appearance prototypes printed on HeyGears Reflex printers, and you can get it in three colours: white, light purple and black, in a 1 kg bottle.

If you have a Reflex and want an everyday resin that prints right first time, start here. If you need more impact resistance, heat resistance or transparency, we explain which one to choose further down.

Before you buy: resin for HeyGears Reflex printers (385 and 405 nm)

UltraPrint resins are formulated for the HeyGears Reflex series, and each one has its print profile already tuned in Blueprint, the brand's software. PAS10 is validated on two types of machine:

  • At 385 nm: Reflex, Reflex Turbo, Reflex 2 and Reflex 2 Pro (385+ nm UV light, according to HeyGears).
  • At 405 nm: Reflex RS and Reflex RS Turbo.

Working on the Reflex RS doesn't make it a resin for any 405 nm printer. HeyGears doesn't provide profiles for LCD printers from other brands (Elegoo, Anycubic, Phrozen, Creality and similar) and doesn't guarantee results on them. If you don't have a Reflex, this isn't the resin for you: take a look at our 3D printer resins.

Key features

  • Accuracy: ±0.05 mm tolerance on parts up to 20 mm (±0.08 mm up to 50 mm and ±0.18 mm up to 100 mm)
  • Fewer supports: handles overhangs of up to 25° without supports, according to the technical data sheet
  • Finish: matte, with no layer lines visible to the naked eye
  • Fast curing: 5 minutes without heat in the UltraCraft Cure (light purple) and 10 minutes for black
  • Notched impact: 32 J/m for light purple, 27 J/m for black and 45 J/m for white (ASTM D256)
  • Heat deflection temperature: between 51 and 55 °C at 0.455 MPa, depending on the colour
  • Format: 1 kg bottle in white, light purple or black
  • Light: 385 nm (Reflex, Reflex Turbo, Reflex 2 and 2 Pro) and 405 nm (Reflex RS and RS Turbo), HeyGears printers only

What it's for and who it's for

HeyGears recommends it for three things: parts where you don't want to see layers, miniatures and mecha parts with lots of curved and flat surfaces, and appearance prototypes that need to fit together precisely. Its ±0.05 mm tolerance also makes it suitable for short runs of identical parts.

It's a resin for people who print models and figures on their Reflex and want a reliable, affordable material to work with every day. It's not an engineering resin: for parts that will take impacts, heat or loads, there are better options within the same range.

Which colour should you choose?

All three colours share the same name, but HeyGears publishes different data for each one, so they aren't simply the same resin with different pigment:

  • Light purple: the reference colour for PAS10, used for the technical data sheet and the user guide. Viscosity of 531 mPa·s.
  • Black: the stiffest (flexural modulus of 2490 MPa and 85 Shore D) and the one with the highest heat deflection temperature (55 °C), but the lowest work of fracture (2200 J/m²). More fluid: 250 mPa·s.
  • White: the toughest of the three: 7680 J/m² work of fracture, 45 J/m impact and 20 % elongation. Viscosity of 229 mPa·s.

Compatibility with HeyGears printers

  • Reflex and Reflex Turbo: compatible
  • Reflex 2 and Reflex 2 Pro: compatible
  • Reflex RS and Reflex RS Turbo: compatible
  • Pulsing Release Module: optional. It isn't required, but it reduces peel forces and lets you use thinner supports
  • Automatic resin refill: not supported, according to HeyGears

HeyGears notes that the compatibility table and process packages are being updated; if in doubt, go with what Blueprint Studio shows for your printer. If you're looking for a machine, check out the Reflex 2 Pro, the Reflex Turbo or the Reflex RS Turbo.

Additional data for light purple from its technical data sheet: tensile modulus of 1400 MPa, tensile strength of 45 MPa, water absorption of 1.2 %, 200 h UV ageing test passed (equivalent to around 3 years indoors) and damp heat test passed. All data come from the HeyGears laboratory, averaged across tests with a deviation of ±10 %.

Design minimums (light purple, standard tank)

  • Minimum wall: 0.2 mm (0.18 mm with Pulsing Release tank)
  • Minimum hole and pillar: 0.4 mm
  • Minimum gap between parts: 0.25 mm
  • Relief details: 0.12 mm embossed and 0.24 mm engraved, at 0.4 mm depth

Use and post-processing

Before printing: shake the bottle well and stir the resin in the tank so no pigment is left settled at the bottom. Slice in Blueprint Studio, selecting PAS10 and the correct colour, with automatic supports. If you won't be printing within 3 days, filter the resin and pour it back into the bottle; don't leave it in the tank for more than 7 days.

Washing: HeyGears gives these times using 95 % alcohol:

  • UltraCraft Wash at 180 rpm: 2 minutes pre-wash + 2 minutes fine wash
  • Ultrasonic: 1 + 2 minutes for light purple, 2 + 2 minutes for black

The first wash is done with used alcohol and the second with clean alcohol. Don't leave the part in alcohol for more than 10 minutes in total, as it affects its properties and dimensions. Afterwards, dry it with compressed air or in an oven for 10 minutes (50 °C for light purple, 45 °C for black). You'll find alcohol and accessories in alcohol and post-processing.

Post-curing: in the UltraCraft Cure, fast mode, without heat and in air: 5 minutes for light purple and 10 minutes for black. For white, use the profile Blueprint assigns. HeyGears recommends sending the curing job from Blueprint, which applies a more refined process than manual curing. The UltraCraft Wash and other options are in wash and cure machines.

Sanding and painting: most parts sand well starting with 300-400 grit, moving to 600 and finishing at 1000 if you're going to paint with an airbrush or spray. Dry the part thoroughly before painting. Be careful with some UV paints: they can make the part more brittle, so test first.

Safety and handling

According to its safety data sheet, PAS10 carries the signal word "Warning": it is harmful if swallowed (H302), causes skin and eye irritation (H315, H319), may cause an allergic skin reaction (H317), may cause respiratory irritation (H335) and may cause damage to organs through prolonged exposure (H373).

  • Wear chemical-resistant gloves and safety glasses, and work in a ventilated area.
  • Avoid contact with liquid resin and uncured parts. If it gets on your skin, wash with soap and water; if it gets in your eyes, rinse with water and see a doctor.
  • Flash point: 106 °C. Not classified as dangerous goods for transport.
  • Store tightly closed between 15 and 28 °C, away from sunlight and moisture. Shelf life: 18 months.
  • Don't pour liquid resin down the drain: cure it in the sun until solid and dispose of it according to local regulations.

Which one should you choose in the UltraPrint range?

  • PAB10: the other standard modelling resin, matte grey, designed for sanding and painting with good adhesion. Higher impact than purple PAS10 (45 J/m).
  • PARP10 Orange Clay: very fine detail and high-quality surface for figures, jewellery prototypes and moulds.
  • PAU11: ABS-like, tougher and with higher heat resistance (63 °C), for housings, parts and fasteners.
  • PAWW20: if you'd rather not work with alcohol, it washes with water in 2 minutes.
  • PAT10: transparent, for parts that need to let light through.

Who it's not for

  • If your printer isn't a HeyGears Reflex.
  • If the part will operate above around 50 °C: its heat deflection temperature is 51-55 °C.
  • If you need functional parts that withstand impacts and repeated stress: PAU11 is a better choice.
  • If you use your Reflex's automatic resin refill: PAS10 doesn't support it.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use PAS10 on an Elegoo, Anycubic or other 405 nm LCD printer?

We don't recommend it. Although it works on the Reflex RS, which is 405 nm, it does so with HeyGears' own profile. The manufacturer doesn't provide profiles or guarantee results on printers from other brands.

Is it 385 or 405 nm?

Both, within the Reflex series: HeyGears validates it on the Reflex, Reflex Turbo, Reflex 2 and 2 Pro (385 nm) and on the Reflex RS and RS Turbo (405 nm).

What's the difference between white, light purple and black?

HeyGears publishes different data for each colour. White is the toughest (7680 J/m² work of fracture), black is the stiffest and hardest (2490 MPa flexural and 85 Shore D) and light purple is the reference colour for the technical data sheet.

Do I need the Pulsing Release Module to print it?

No. With PAS10 it's optional. If you have it, it reduces peel forces and allows thinner supports, but it also prints with the standard tank.

How long does it need for post-curing?

In the UltraCraft Cure, fast mode and without heat: 5 minutes for light purple and 10 minutes for black. For white, use the profile Blueprint assigns.

What do you wash it with?

With 95 % alcohol: 2 minutes pre-wash and 2 minutes fine wash in the UltraCraft Wash. Don't leave it in alcohol for more than 10 minutes in total.

Does it work with automatic resin refill?

No. HeyGears states that PAS10 doesn't support automatic refill.

Can it be sanded and painted?

Yes. Sand from 300-400 grit up to 1000 if you're going to paint, dry the part thoroughly and test UV paints first, as some can make it more brittle.
