HeyGears UltraPrint PAT10: 385 nm clear resin with an acrylic-like finish

PAT10 is HeyGears' clear resin. It transmits 88.5 % of light with just 5.4 % haze, so with a good finish it looks like acrylic. It's tough, won't crack even if it falls off the table, and is formulated not to yellow: HeyGears cites stable colour for 8 years indoors. It comes in a 1 kg bottle and is only for HeyGears Reflex 385 nm printers.

Use it for clear parts on figures, scale modelling accessories, prototypes, electronics components and even end-use parts. According to HeyGears, it can also be used for wearable products that are in contact with the skin.

Before you buy: this is a 385 nm resin for certain HeyGears printers only

UltraPrint resins are formulated for the HeyGears Reflex series, and each one has its print profile already tuned in Blueprint, the brand's software. PAT10 is only validated on Reflex printers that use 385 nm UV light (385+ nm, according to HeyGears):

  • Compatible: Reflex, Reflex Turbo, Reflex 2 and Reflex 2 Pro.
  • Not compatible: Reflex RS and Reflex RS Turbo (405 nm). HeyGears doesn't include them in its list.

This is not a resin for standard 405 nm LCD printers (Elegoo, Anycubic, Phrozen, Creality and similar). HeyGears doesn't provide profiles for them or validate it outside the 385 nm Reflex printers. If you're looking for a clear resin for another printer, check out our clear 3D resins.

Key features

  • Transparency: 88.5 % light transmission and 5.4 % haze (ASTM D1003)
  • Non-yellowing: passes 600 h of UV ageing, which HeyGears equates to 8 years indoors or 1 year outdoors
  • Very tough: 13200 J/m² work of fracture and 25 % elongation at break
  • Temperature: heat deflection at 67 °C at 0.455 MPa
  • Accuracy: ±0.05 mm on parts up to 20 mm (±0.1 mm up to 50 mm and ±0.2 mm up to 100 mm)
  • Skin tests: passes cytotoxicity, sensitisation and skin irritation (ISO 10993-5, -10 and -23)
  • Low water absorption: 0.9 %
  • Format: 1 kg bottle, clear. 385 nm only

What it's for and who it's for

HeyGears recommends it for four uses: clear parts for figures, consumer electronics prototypes, clear end-use parts and clear applications that must not yellow over time. Its website shows, for example, blocks with dragonflies inside that look like amber or acrylic.

It's for anyone printing on a 385 nm Reflex who wants real transparency: housings that show what's inside, display pieces or wearable accessories. If toughness is what matters to you, it stands out there too: it has the highest work of fracture of the UltraPrint resins in this selection.

HeyGears printer compatibility

  • Reflex and Reflex Turbo: compatible
  • Reflex 2 and Reflex 2 Pro: compatible
  • Reflex RS and Reflex RS Turbo: not compatible
  • Pulsing Release Module: optional. With it, you can print finer holes and pillars (0.3 mm)

HeyGears notes that compatibility and process packages are being updated; whatever appears in Blueprint Studio for your printer takes precedence. If you're looking for a compatible machine, check out the Reflex 2 Pro or the Reflex Turbo.

Use and post-processing

Before printing: shake the bottle well and stir the resin in the tank. Slice in Blueprint Studio, selecting PAT10. If you're not going to print within 3 days, filter the resin and return it to the bottle; don't leave it in the tank for more than 7 days.

Washing: with 95 % alcohol. In the UltraCraft Wash at 180 rpm, a 3-minute pre-wash with used alcohol and a 3-minute fine wash with clean alcohol; in an ultrasonic cleaner, 3 + 2 minutes. Don't exceed 10 minutes in alcohol in total. Dry with compressed air or in an oven at 40 °C for 10 minutes. You'll find alcohol and accessories in alcohol and post-processing.

Post-curing: in the UltraCraft Cure you have two options:

  • Fast: no heat, in air, 7 minutes at room temperature.
  • Performance: with heat, in air: 15 minutes of preheating at 46 °C, 15 minutes of curing at 46 °C and 25 minutes of baking at 62 °C. This is the mode HeyGears uses to measure the data in the table.

It's normal for the part to come out of curing slightly yellowish. HeyGears explains that the tint disappears within a week if you cure in Fast mode, or within 1-2 days in Performance mode. More equipment in wash and cure machines.

For a crystal-clear finish: wet sand from 400 to 1200 grit, going up in steps of 200 and not moving on to the next grit until you've removed the scratches from the previous one. Clean off the dust with water, then with IPA or 95 % alcohol and a microfibre cloth. Once the part is dry, apply a coat of clear acrylic varnish (car clear coat) or UV varnish. UV varnish gives a better finish, but some can make the part more brittle: test first. The more you sand, the clearer it gets.

Safety and handling

According to its safety data sheet, PAT10 carries the signal word "Warning": it causes skin and eye irritation (H315, H319), may cause an allergic skin reaction (H317) and may cause respiratory irritation (H335).

  • Wear gloves and safety glasses, and work in a ventilated area.
  • If it gets on your skin, wash with soap and water; if it gets in your eyes, rinse with water and seek medical advice.
  • Flash point: 130 °C. Not classified as dangerous goods for transport.
  • Store sealed between 15 and 28 °C, away from sunlight and moisture. Shelf life: 18 months.
  • Don't pour liquid resin down the drain: cure it in the sun until solid and dispose of it according to local regulations.

The skin tests (ISO 10993) refer to the printed and cured part. This is not a dental or medical resin; for that, see our dental resins.

Which one to choose from the UltraPrint range?

  • PAU11: ABS-like, opaque grey, for functional parts. Also works on the Reflex RS.
  • PAWW20: translucent pink and water-washable, if you don't need true transparency.
  • PAS10: the standard matte modelling resin, for opaque figures and prototypes.
  • PAM10: HeyGears' mixable colour resins, if you want to tint.

Who it's not for

  • If you have a Reflex RS or RS Turbo: it's not compatible.
  • If your printer isn't a HeyGears Reflex.
  • If you want maximum transparency without sanding or varnishing: the acrylic-like finish requires working the part.
  • If you're looking for a resin for dental or medical use.

Frequently asked questions

Does PAT10 work on the Reflex RS or RS Turbo?

No. HeyGears only lists it as compatible with the Reflex, Reflex Turbo, Reflex 2 and Reflex 2 Pro, which are 385 nm printers.

What about an Elegoo, Anycubic or other 405 nm printer?

No. It's a 385 nm resin with no profiles or validation outside the compatible HeyGears Reflex printers.

Does it come out clear straight from the printer?

To achieve the acrylic-like finish, you need to sand up to 1200 grit and apply clear varnish. HeyGears sums it up like this: the more you sand, the clearer it gets.

Why does it turn yellow after curing?

That's normal. According to HeyGears, the tint disappears within a week with Fast curing, or within 1-2 days with Performance mode.

Does it yellow over the years?

It's formulated not to: it passes 600 hours of UV ageing, which HeyGears equates to 8 years indoors with no noticeable colour change.

Can it be used for parts that touch the skin?

HeyGears says yes for wearable products: the cured part passes ISO 10993 tests for cytotoxicity, sensitisation and skin irritation. It is not a resin for medical or dental use.

Do I need the Pulsing Release Module?

No, it's optional. With it, you can print holes and pillars down to 0.3 mm.

What temperature can it withstand?

Its heat deflection temperature is 67 °C at 0.455 MPa.
