HeyGears UltraPrint PAU20: 385 nm polycarbonate-like tooling resin

PAU20 is the general-purpose resin in HeyGears' Tooling line. It's black, rigid and load-bearing: 69 MPa tensile strength and 109 MPa flexural strength. HeyGears compares it to polycarbonate and recommends it for structural parts, tooling and end-use jigs. It prints with ±0.04 mm tolerances and a smooth surface finish. 1 kg bottle.

Two important notes before you order:

  • This is a 385 nm resin for the Reflex, Reflex Turbo, Reflex 2 and Reflex 2 Pro only. It does not work on generic 405 nm LCD printers (Elegoo, Anycubic, Phrozen...) or on the Reflex RS or RS Turbo.
  • The Pulsing Release Module (PRM) is mandatory.

Key features

  • Wavelength: 385 nm. Reflex, Reflex Turbo, Reflex 2 and Reflex 2 Pro only.
  • Pulsing Release Module required.
  • Polycarbonate-like: high strength and toughness.
  • Flexural strength: 109 MPa. Tensile strength: 69 MPa.
  • Work of fracture: 5,400 J/m², with 23 % elongation at break.
  • Printing tolerance: ±0.04 mm.
  • Wear-resistant with a smooth surface.
  • Format: 1,000 g bottle, black.

What it's for and who it's for

Printed tooling has to stand up to daily use: clamping, holding, positioning, taking knocks and friction. A modelling resin will crack or deform. PAU20 is designed for exactly that, combining the rigidity of an engineering resin with enough toughness not to snap at the first load.

Applications suggested by HeyGears:

  • Tooling and jigs: assembly fixtures, positioning and drilling jigs, gauges.
  • Fixings: brackets, flanges, clamps and holders.
  • End-use structural components: mechanical parts that work under load.

It's a resin for workshops, engineering, maintenance and production teams that already work with a Reflex and the PRM and need parts that actually perform, not just look good.

Compatibility: HeyGears printers and Pulsing Release Module

According to HeyGears:

  • Compatible printers: Reflex, Reflex Turbo, Reflex 2 and Reflex 2 Pro. All of them work at 385 nm.
  • Not compatible: Reflex RS and Reflex RS Turbo (405 nm), or printers from other brands.
  • PRM required: PAU20 is on the list of resins that must be used with the Pulsing Release Module, along with PAC10, PAE10 and PAH270.

What you need depending on your printer:

Bear in mind that HeyGears does not recommend the PRM for models with walls of 3 mm or less. Since PAU20 always runs with the PRM, design your tools with walls thicker than 3 mm.

Printers: Reflex 2 Pro and Reflex Turbo. More models in resin 3D printers.

Technical specifications

Data from the HeyGears technical data sheet (TDS), rev. 02.2025. Average laboratory values with a ±10 % deviation.

Property Standard Value
Impact strength (notched) ASTM D256 35 J/m
Elongation at break ASTM D638 23 %
Work of fracture ISO 20795-1 5,400 J/m²
Tensile modulus ASTM D638 2,290 MPa
Flexural modulus ASTM D790 2,300 MPa
Tensile strength ASTM D638 69 MPa

Damp heat test IEC 60068-2-78 Passed
  • Wavelength: 385 nm.
  • Ageing: HeyGears equates the 200 h of UV exposure to around 3 years indoors, with less than 30 % loss of properties, no noticeable colour change and a deviation of ±0.1 mm.
  • Flash point: 116 °C (safety data sheet).
  • Density: 1.0-1.5 g/cm³ at 25 °C (safety data sheet).

Use and post-processing

Exposure and curing parameters are included in the HeyGears Blueprint process packages, not in the technical data sheet. With the PRM fitted, you select PAU20 in Blueprint and the Reflex applies the profile.

  • Thick resin: 3,400 mPa·s, well above a standard resin. Shake it thoroughly and work with it warm. On the Reflex 2, HeyGears tested its heated scraper with PAU20 at 50 μm: heating it from 25 to 35 °C cut dripping time by more than 24 % on parts with a cross-section over 40 mm.
  • Washing: with the solvent specified in the process package. As it's thick, pay extra attention to cavities and holes. Supplies in alcohol and post-processing.
  • Post-curing: the HeyGears UltraCraft Cure or a wash and cure station.
  • Design: take advantage of the ±0.04 mm tolerance for fits, but remember the PRM rule: walls thicker than 3 mm.

Safety and handling

The HeyGears safety data sheet (SDS) classifies it with the signal word "Warning" and the following hazard statements:

  • H302: harmful if swallowed.
  • H315: causes skin irritation.
  • H317: may cause an allergic skin reaction.
  • H319: causes serious eye irritation.
  • H335: may cause respiratory irritation.
  • H373: may cause damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure.

Use nitrile gloves, safety glasses and ventilation. If it gets on your skin, wash with soap and water. Keep the bottle closed in a cool, dry, ventilated place, away from heat. Never pour liquid resin down the drain: cure it and dispose of it according to local regulations.

Which one should you choose?

  • PAU20: tooling and load-bearing structural parts. Requires PRM.
  • PAWR10: more impact-resistant (64 J/m) with a 2H surface, but less rigid (34 MPa tensile). Doesn't need the PRM and also works on the RS.
  • PAU11: ABS-like, for functional parts without the PRM.
  • PAH270: the high-temperature resin in the range, if the part will be exposed to heat (PAU20 tops out at 60 °C).
  • PAE10: the other Tooling resin, soft and elastic, silicone-like.

More technical resins in engineering resins and for heat in high-temperature resistant resins.

Who it's not for

  • Anyone without the Pulsing Release Module.
  • The Reflex RS and RS Turbo, or printers from other brands.
  • Parts that operate above 60 °C.
  • Thin-walled parts (3 mm or less).
  • Miniatures and detailed parts: that's what PAP10 is for.

Frequently asked questions

Can I print PAU20 without the Pulsing Release Module?

No. HeyGears includes it in the list of resins that must use the PRM. On the Reflex and Reflex Turbo, use the Reflex PRM kit; on the Reflex 2 and 2 Pro, the PRM 2 with its Pulsing Release tank.

Does it work on the Reflex RS or RS Turbo?

No. HeyGears only lists it as compatible with the Reflex, Reflex Turbo, Reflex 2 and Reflex 2 Pro, all of which are 385 nm.

What about Elegoo, Anycubic or Phrozen printers?

No. It's a 385 nm resin with locked parameters in HeyGears Blueprint. We don't sell it for generic 405 nm LCD printers.

Is it real polycarbonate?

No. It's a photopolymer resin that HeyGears describes as polycarbonate-like because of its combination of strength and toughness. It doesn't have the heat resistance of polycarbonate: its heat deflection temperature is 60 °C.

How accurate is it?

HeyGears specifies a printing tolerance of ±0.04 mm.

Why is it so thick?

Its viscosity is 3,400 mPa·s according to the TDS. Warming it helps: on the Reflex 2, the heated scraper reduces dripping time.

Where can I find the exposure and curing times?

In the PAU20 process package in HeyGears Blueprint. HeyGears doesn't publish them in the technical data sheet.
